Work commenced on Knighthayes Court, to a design by William Burges, in 1869. It was built for Sir John Heathcote-Amory, who made his money from lace. The interiors - with painted ceilings and wall stenciling - have an interesting blend of medieval with Victorian that added up to a Victorian country house, that the National Trust is so good at re-creating
The garden is well known in its own right with some splendid topiary, a water lily pool, in addition to a collection of rare shrubs. There are also woodland walks through the grounds
