The flavour of Dartmoor and the Tamar Valley in Devon
A 60 mile circular drive to give the flavour of Dartmoor and the villages on
the edge of the moor

- Take the B3260 out of Okehampton, signpost to Tavistock, and join the A386
south after 3 miles
- Passing through Mary Tavy, you will notice many mining relics - this was
once the largest copper mine in the world
- Go through Tavistock, one of Devon's four Stannary towns
- Follow signs to Princetown, and the road climbs up onto the open moor You
pass two of Dartmoor's tors, Cox Tor and Great Mis Tor, on your left.
- Just before getting to Princetown, you can see the famous Dartmoor Prison
below you on the left.
- Take the B3212 out of Princetown (marked Yelverton and Plymouth) . There
are spectacular moorland views along this stretch of road
- From Yelverton detour a few miles to visit Buckland
Abbey, Devon (home of Sir Francis Drake)
- Continue past the Garden House and on
to Morewellam Quay, once a busy port for exporting copper down the Tamar,
the building have now been restored
- On northwards, stop at Brent Tor Church, a 12th century church with good
views all round
- 3 miles further on stop at Lydford Gorge, Devon,
a beauty spot owned by the National Trust
- On through Lydford village and back to Okehampton
