Walk - Branscombe to Beer and back by Hooken Cliffs, Devon
A five mile walk from Beer to Branscombe, Devon along the dramatic cliff
landslide at Hooken , then back inland

- Park in the Common Lane cliff car park on the south edge of Beer
- Follow the marked coast walk south to Beer Head, where after passing in
front of the cliff top lookout, you descend into Hooken Undercliff. Beer Head
is a 426 foot promontory which offers panoramic views from Start Point to
Portland
- In 1790 a 10 acre section of cliff broke away and collapsed, creating what
is now a wilderness of strange columns that is a wild life haven
- The path through Hooken Undercliff leads eventually to Branscombe Mouth,
and from there to the village of Branscombe
- Branscombe has a National Trust working smithy (sometimes open) and a National
Trust Old Bakery Tea Room (usually open)
- The inland path back to Beer follows a footpath out of Branscombe marked
to "Stockman's Hill" and then "Beer"
- As you enter Beer you pass the Pecorama Pleasure Gardens with its miniature
steam railway
- Beer is an attractive small fishing village. Beer stone was quarried to
build Exeter Cathedral
