Four and a half mile walk starting from the Bedford Bridge car park on the A386 near Horrabridge
At the end of the car park you will see the narrow footpath that runs along the bank of the River Walkham for about a mile
There was a spectacular railway line through the valley, which closed in 1962, the huge viaduct, nearly 400 yards long was blown up, but you can still see some remains
After about a mile from the start, you reach a parking area, where you can turn right to see Grenofen Bridge. A small 7 foot wide single span bridge that once was on the main Tavistock to Buckland Monachorum road
From here there is a footpath, following the old green lane to Buckland Monachorum
Monachorum means "of the monks", Buckland Abbey built in 1278 is only a mile away. The abbey was converted into a country house my Sir Richard Grenville in 1541, and later owned by Sir Francis Drake. It is now owned by the National Trust
Follow a lane east from the village, past Uppaton Farm and at Uppaton House cross straight over to Roborough Down
Roborough Down is an area of open heathland just inside Dartmoor National Park. You follow a track across the bracken and gorse heath back to Bedford Bridge car park where you started, passing under the Magpie Viaduct on the old railway
